Review of The Great Silence (1968) by Justin L — 01 Jan 2008
Dark, brutal and beautifully shot spaghetti western. Klaus Kinski is as menacing as only he can be and manages to be one of the better western villains I've seen. This is far from being the normal heroic western though, it's brutally violent and unrelentingly bleak.
This makes the Leone westerns feel like celebrations of life. Definitely one of the best spaghetti westerns I've seen but I enjoyed Django a bit more.
