Review of The Great Silence (1968) by Gordon T — 01 Feb 2013
THE GREAT SILENCE. still the best western ever filmed.
. . . a western that takes place in a snowy village!!! AWESOME:
Director Serrgio Corbucci is as effective as Sergio Leone with his DJANGO and VAMOS A MATAR COMPANEROS and THE GREAT SILENCE Westerns. Apparently Corbucci's films were deemed as being too brutal and violent for American distributors and were never readily available for view in The United States.
Of course since The United States of America is "The Capital of The World," if "America" chooses Leone instead of Corbucci, Corbucci will have to not be as popular as Leone.
Again THE SOUNDTRACK!!!!!! Enio Morricone . . . it is hypnotic and beautiful and the liet motif, when played over the BLIZZARD beset countryside has a chilling effect.
And the hero is deaf . . . who ever heard of a deaf cowboy in a Western set during a Blizzard!!!! The Great Silence is AWESOME!!
I just happened to see this on the IFC cable channel (Independent Film Channel), if I hadn't seen it, I would have never known its existence. (Here in America things don't seem to exist if they are not on CBS, NBC, or ABC television networks; it was only CNN that bothered reporting that TYLER PERRY built his own studio).
So, here in America, you basically have to find out about movies on your own because HOLLYWOOD blocks the flow of information every chance it gets.
The Wild thing with The Grand Silence for me is the ending . . . (I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone) but WOW . . . all that happens and then the credits suddenly crawl to the haunting score by Ennio Morricone!!!!
AWSOME MOVIE!!
Shame on Hollywood for not recognizing Sergio Corbucci's films . . . it wasn't until LUMINOUS Video Wurks and Anchor Bay Dvds that I heard of DJANGO and VAMOS A MATAR COMPANEROS.
---You know even I'm not the only one upset with HOLLYWOOD, Megan Fox herself walked-away from the TRANSFORMERS franchise: she called Michael Bay "Hitler"!!!!
Maybe HOLLYWOOD isn't such a Great Place since someone as truthful to herself as Megan Fox is chose preserving her dignity over the Big Money Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay offered her if she returned to the franchise.
