Review of The Great Silence (1968) by Brian R — 03 Oct 2010
This is a macabre and morose piece of Western overture that rarely gets the credit it deserves. It's protagonist, Silenzio is both tragic, moving, and at the same time cruel and sadistic. Never can I forget the duality of both Silence and his nemesis played by Klaus Kinski.
Cruelty abound, bloodshed and rapid hand-held cinematraphy solidifies this as the best Non-Leone spaghetti western of all time. Pure cinema.
