Review of The Great Silence (1968) by Tanner B — 26 Nov 2017
The Great Silence (1968) ???? / ????
Stunningly bleak film of sadistic bounty hunter and mute gunfighter, both with blood on their hands whose paths cross when a widow is involved inside snow-filled Mountains of Utah during a terrible blizzard. Perhaps the greatest spagetti western ever; extremely well-made, almost mesmerizing in its depiction of (rather uncompromising) brutal violence and cruelty, with audacious, unforgettable finale. Ennio Morricone's haunting music is also among his greatest. A superlative piece of Italian filmmaking. If you like movies, even by a small degree, don't miss this.
