Review of The Gate (1987) by Cody M — 03 Jul 2011
Cheesy, meandering but ultimately likable horror flick about a young boy (Stephen Dorff in his first role) who discovers a hole leading to hell in his backyard. Teaming up with his tomboy sister and bespectacled metalhead best friend, he must find away to close the gateway before the evil below escapes.
With most of the running time devoted to setting up the story, this flick may be too slow and too tame for most modern horror fans, but the creepy atmosphere and great special effects (that still hold up today) add to the spooky charm.
Acting is mostly so-so, but young Dorff shows his skills at an eary age.
