Review of The Frozen Ground (2013) by Adnan A — 22 Oct 2013

The Frozen Ground is a safely laid out genre film that holds its own as decent/above-average. Coming out in the same year as the excellent Prisoners, it is has a steep climb from the onset to reach that high bar.

For the most part, the film manages to hold interest and has some good performances from Cage & Cusack. It does suffer in terms of pacing at times & doesn't have enough meat overall to leave a powerful impact. It doesn't fully explore & develop the killer's character arc even when it makes many attempts to do so. I also took some issue with the ending in which a rather calculated killer seems to unravel a bit too conveniently & abruptly.

Overall, The Frozen Ground is an above average crime-thriller that feels like a slightly better-produced tv criminal drama. Worth a watch.
