Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Holland J — 13 Nov 2017
Depressing. We wanted to walk out 30 minutes into the movie but stayed to see if it would get better. It didn't. Aside from a very good performance from Willem Dafoe, the lead characters were awful.
Why would I want to invest any time into the mother and daughter? The mother is crass and cruel. The child is rude, foul mouthed. I hated the characters and not because they were poor. You can be kind and respectful despite your circumstances in life.
There may be many people in the world like Moonie and Halley, but I won't pay to see them unless you give me at least a shred of redeeming value in them so I can sit through the movie and root for them.
