Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Dane M — 26 Nov 2018
First came Tangerine. Now this. Sean Baker knows how to capture 'real'. I would love to meet the casting director. All the actors, especially the children are superbly heartbreaking. Let children loose in an urban playground next to the world's best known playground and the juxtaposition is art.
Difficult to watch at times, this is a true America with helicopters buzzing downtrodden neighborhoods and children setting fire to abandon. I'd watch this again if I had the guts but I can't. It's just too raw and I get the feeling it's just going to get worse.
And perhaps that is what Baker is telling us.
