Review of The Fallen Idol (1948) by Derek C — 20 Jul 2007
The genius of Carol Reed and Graham Greene as a working cinematic team starts here; humor, suspense, wonderful acting and beautiful shots. Very much feels like a short spin from Greene, and would even make an interesting play.
Certainly holds traces of what's to come; canted frames, and running through empty starkly-lit streets at night. Highlights include hide-and-seek in the dark, and Mrs. Baines hovering over the boy's bed.
Only complaint would be the sometimes overbearing score.
