Review of The Fallen Idol (1948) by Robyn M — 21 Aug 2012
I stumbled apon this wonderful Criterion purely on luck, and glad I did!
The Fallen Idol has that Alfred Hitchcock atmosphere; Dark lighting, with it's built up suspense, and unique camera angles. So simalar 1 could be mistaken with who really directed the film. During the 40's it was unusual to have a female director, Carol Reed was 1 of the first to work side-by-side among her male competitors. Although Fallen Idol went straight to Tv it was a huge step up for wemon in Cinema.
