Review of The Exorcist III (1990) by Juli N — 06 Oct 2014
Great film. Dark. Shot and edited well. Wasn't old enough to know what impact it had on its initial release. From what I read it was fairly low budget and made a good profit. Faired well enough with critics.
But seeing how it isn't brought up too often now in horror film conversations and what not it seems it's fallen to the wey side. Obviously, because it's not The Exorcist. And because of the lackluster-ness that is the sequel I guess people dont give much thought to the third film which is in many ways different but in my opinion just as memorable and finely acted as the original.
If most if not all award shows didn't ignore horror films, I don't see any reason why Brad Dourif wouldn't have gotten at least a best supporting actor nom for this. He carries so much of this film in his portrayal of the Gemini Killer.
Just a great film. Even though the studio went behind Blatty's back and re shot the whole last third of the film, it's still good. Hopefully that "lost" footage surfaces and Blatty can make the cut he intended.
