Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Jerry N — 05 Jan 2009
Considering they didn't have much to work with in the way of science fiction in the 1950's, I'm going to cut it some slack. However, I will say that the alien comes across as pretentious. The reason why is because he keeps one-uping the humans.
Example, he makes it a point to note that they are sophisticated enough to not have wars and that their currency are diamonds (the most prized resource our world has next to oil). The dialogue, even for it's time, was revolting.
