Review of The Counterfeiters (2007) by Ben W — 20 Aug 2008
This is a great film about a fascinating true story that took place during WWII involving a group of Jews who ran a counterfeiting ring for the Nazi`s. The film was made with hand held camera`s and what looks like an old film stock sheened with an abundance of grain and dull shades, all of which suit the film perfectly and add to the overall atmosphere.
The performances also give a bolster to the film with great European actors bringing honest interpretations to real life characters. It`s not a surprise this film won the oscar for best foreign film, the academy just can`t help but throwing the little golden statuette`s at any filmmaker brave enough to try his hand at the holocaust, especially when they do it well with respect rather than exploitation.
