Review of The Counterfeiters (2007) by Conor M — 30 Aug 2008
Well made, well written, well acted Austrian film based on an interesting true story. the plot presents a compelling moral dilemma for its principle characters: is it worth it to help the enemy in order to stay alive, while your fellow men are dying all around you? Karl Markovics is excellent as the expert counterfeiter who must survive using his talents.
I was also a fan of Augus Deihl, the fellow counterfeiter who wants to overthrow the Nazis that are keeping them captive. I haven't seen any of the other foreign language nominees, but i'd say this riveting drama was pretty deserving.
