Review of The Cider House Rules (1999) by Bob W — 15 Mar 2010
A modest attempt at adapting a complex, multi-layered book that tries desperately to exude sympathy for characters that are involved in abortion, incest, murder, lying often with licentious and fatalistic attitudes towards choices of ethical and spiritual consequence.
It is an homage to moralistic relativism. More simply, it just fails to live up to a well told story, despite being well casted and a disarmingly charming picture in spots.
