Review of The Baron of Arizona (1950) by Steve W — 03 Mar 2012
Vincent Price shows he's not just a horror movie man. In this wildly fact-based drama about James Reavis, it shows the fraudster scheming his crazy plan to forge documents based on a fictional royal of Spanish descent so he can marry her and then become the Baron of Arizona.
Vincent Price is at his absolute best, a cunning and sly man who talks his way out of any situation and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. The biggest things about this performance is that they build on it and show his final redemption, rather than just paint him to be a trickster.
The movie is a bit slow at times, but a beautiful tale of expectations and soul searching wrapped around a shiny Spanish gold leaf.
