Review of The Baron of Arizona (1950) by Eric R — 05 Dec 2009
Vincent Price demonstrates his unique acting style. He excels at playing men who are engaged in horrible acts, deception,or impending murder. We watch him charm his victims as they become helplessly stuck in his web.
Still, as audience members, we're always fearing the exposure of Price's schemes. It's an odd form that his performances embody, odd in that he is not John Wayne or even James Dean, yet we still root for him.
What are we rooting for exactly? His complex flaws? His deceptive charm? Certainly not for the success of his dastardly plans. The story of this film is o.k., but Price's performance is a gem.
