Review of The Andromeda Strain (1971) by Matthew C — 02 May 2013
It only really starts to get good with a half hour left to go. The rest is a slow build of dread, typical for the time period, but heightened with one or two moments of real suspense and interesting, almost, comic book presentation.
It's the old school version of a hot shot team assembled to save the day. None of the team are young and sexy, they're old and brainy and it harkens to a time when ability to act was more important.
If you can withstand the long drawn out exposition and make it to the conclusion, the action ramps up and the fear for Earth's survival is felt. Not a classic sci-fi in my opinion and one I won't revisit, but an interesting retrospective on early 70s sci-fi, post 50s boom and pre Star Wars craziness.
