Review of Spartacus (1960) by Patrick B — 09 May 2008
After my first viewing, I thought that the only part of the film worth watching was the bits about the gladiator school. I later learned that these scenes are where Mr. Kubrick had most control, whereas Mr.
Douglas interfered with the rest. That makes sense. Douglas is laughable on the cross, but the rest of the cast is populated with some very fine actors.
