Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Lord N — 30 Jun 2010
Well, to start out, I would have to say that this one is really really really long. I feel that there are little bits and pieces that they could have cut out, nothing major mind you, that added up, would have cut out a good 45 minutes to an hour of the film. However, I still feel that despite its length, this film is one of the greats. A true classic of cinema. The quality of the film is of a level rarely seen these days (actually a level unmatchable these days. There are some quality films these days but this film is really really good). I also really loved the characters. each character had something unique to bring to the film. I would highly suggest this one to anyone who hasn't seen it. the length can get to you but it is still an excellent film.
TRIVIA TIME:First use of a scene which is now commonplace in cinema: The approaching horde coming into view as they crest a hilltop, specifically when Kikuchiyo sees the mounted bandits approaching.
