Seven Samurai is largely considered the first modern action movie and the best Japanese film of all time.

All of the components that make it such a groundbreaking movie are evident on the screen, but many of the reasons why Seven Samurai transcends its place & time in the film world are academic in nature. Nevertheless, Seven Samurai is mandatory viewing for every cinephile, often serving as the entry point for the rest of Akira Kurosawa's body of work.
