Review of Race to Nowhere (2009) by Michele S — 12 Jan 2011
First of all, this is not a movie but an advocacy journalism, and I did not know what I would be watching but really glad that I did. Very thought provoking film and sure required more discussion afterward.
The issues that kids are facing to in this movie aren't new to me, being an Asian we had worse. Growing up, I was too numb to even feel academic pressure, because everyday and nights were about study, test, study and more tests. We studied in classroom, lunch break, PE period became English and music period became Math... I was memorizing English dictionary during bus rides.
I only knew that I could not breath, never smiled, and felt that there was no hope everyday. Now I learned the term - depression.
