Review of Predestination (2013) by Facundo N — 05 Apr 2015

Wow, eso sí que me agarró desprevenido.

Los hermanos Spierig, responsables de la película de 2009 "Daybreakers" (la cual no vi), nos traen con "Predestination" una de las películas de ciencia ficción más sorprendentes, intrigantes y satisfactorias en bastante tiempo. No voy a contar nada sobre la historia porque, en primer lugar, no sé exactamente cómo resumirla y, en segundo, es mejor saber lo menos posible al sentarse a verla y así disfrutar de la experiencia al máximo. De hecho, esta película me recordó mucho a "El Origen" y no precisamente porque la historia o los personajes se parezcan, sino más bien porque a medida que la película avanzaba mi mandíbula descendía cada vez más hasta llegar al piso, cosa que también me pasó con la obra maestra de Nolan.

En cuanto a las actuaciones, todas fueron muy buenas pero la que realmente se destaca no es otra más que Sarah Snook, de la cual no conozco mucho pero que sin dudas pasó a estar incluida en mi lista de actrices a las que tener en cuenta tras su increíble y compleja interpretación. Sin más que decir para no arruinar ninguna de las muchas sorpresas que guarda esta cinta, cierro recomendando "Predestination" para todo aquel que ande buscando una excelente película de ciencia ficción hábil e inteligentemente dirigida, con muy buenas actuaciones, y una historia que no te suelta ni siquiera cuando llegan los créditos.

Wow, now that grabbed me by surprise.

The Spierig brothers, responsible for the 2009 movie "Daybreakers" (which I haven't seen yet), bring us with "Predestination" one of the most amazing, intriguing and satisfying science fiction movies in quite some time. I will not tell anything about the story because, first, I do not know exactly how to summarize it, and secondly, it is better to know as little as possible in order to sit down and be able to enjoy the experience to the fullest. In fact, this movie reminded me a lot of "Inception" and not because the story or the characters are similar, but rather because as the film progressed my jaw increasingly went down until it hit the floor, which also happened to me with Nolan's masterpiece.

As for the performances, they all were very good but the one that really stands out is none other than Sarah Snook, of which I don't know much but undoubtedly happens to be now included in my list of actresses worthy of my attention. Without saying more so I don't ruin any of the surprises that this film has, I close this review recommending "Predestination" for anyone who's looking for an excellent science fiction movie, skilfully and intelligently directed, with very good performances and a story that doesn't let you go even when the credits begin to roll.
