Review of Pickpocket (1959) by Tibor B — 21 Oct 2008
Great direction is the highlight of this character study film about a petty thief who makes his living picking pockets. There are some awesome sequences showing the protagonist with two other accomplices as they spend a day at the train station taking wallets, bills of cash and watches from unsuspecting travelers.
Unfortunately this is not enough excitement to give the film a steady pulse and director Bresson's insistence on his actors to convey as little emotion as possible when delivering their lines go a long way to dulling the film.
