Review of Pather Panchali (1955) by Phillip G — 23 Nov 2007
A film as distinctively Bengali as it is universal in its appeal due entirely to believable, relateable charaters and a genuine sense of authenticity. Tragic and beautiful, unforgettable and thoughtful, the director clearly has talent and far more importantly a true understanding of people and a belief in the underlying goodness of humanity.
A superb achievement.
