Review of Flesh (1968) by Josh K — 28 Sep 2010
Flesh, a film from the Andy Warhol stable, is utter garbage. Shot on an ultra-low budget and featuring Warhol favourite Joe Dallesandro as a male escort, the film follows Joe as he walks the streets looking to make a quick buck to pay for his wife?s girlfriend?s abortion (got that?).
Basically Dallesandro naked a lot (the film opens with him naked on a bed, the camera looking at him from behind, his balls spilling out from beneath him) and inane dialogue that appears (and did I read elsewhere?) to be improvised ? if it was scripted, the writer should?ve been shunned forever, anyway.
The sight of Dallesandro naked for almost ninety minutes in a variety of poses eventually wears thin and the almost non-existent plot makes for mind-numbing viewing.
