Review of Paper Moon (2013) by Rod A — 15 Nov 2009
A sincere and intelligent depiction of the darkness childhood can offer. This movie is quite funny. I laughed out loud several times. Though it may seem like a cutesy picture at first, Tatum O'Neal gives such a convincing and multi-layered performance straight out of Flannery O'Connor.
Polly Platt's production design and Boganovich's direction are in top form. After finishing this I immediately wanted to watch It Happened One Night again. Both films have such honest portrayals of folks grappling with the Great Depression.
Which is not to say they are not only period pieces. Rather, they portray the desperation and scheming people turned to during a difficult times.
