Review of Fatal Attraction (1987) by Rod A — 07 Jul 2011
According to the documentary in the Special Features, the original ending of this film presented a radically different result. That ending was much more interesting. Still, this film delivers a jolt of intimacy and unintended consequences that continues to strike forcefully.
Glenn Close and Michael Douglas take us on a journey of passion and alienation that absolutely resonates. The ending of the theatrical release is unfortunate. It skirts the vital issues raised by Douglas' cavalier attitude.
His scheming is really what the film addresses. It feels as if the conversation is abruptly cut off by the alternate ending. Despite hedging its bets, this film hits several important marks.
