Review of On the Waterfront (1954) by Tom T — 24 Mar 2011
The great Marlon Brando plays probably his best performance in On the Waterfront. The waterfront in New York is run by a corrupt gang of mobsters who have murdered a worker after he spoke out about the corruption to the authorities.
Terry Malloy (Brando) the younger brother of one of the mobsters is then put into a difficult position to either keep quite or speak out, whilst also being in a relationship with the murdered man's sister.
On The Waterfront is a gripping classic which shows any neutral why Marlon Brando is probably the greatest actor of all time. Its a story of corruption, heartache, and courage. A recommended watch for any film watchers, old or young.
I have to say I haven't seen much of Brando's work apart from The Godfather and Apocalyspe Now, but I am fast becoming a fan.
