Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Juli N — 10 May 2014
Nosferatu The Vampyre (or Nosferatu Phantom der Nacht if you speak German) is Werner Herzog's reimagining of the classic Bram Stoker tale, but also pays tribute to the original Nosferatu film with the inclusion of the appearance of Count Orlok, but as Dracula in this film.
Not only is the film frightening and atmospheric, but it's also quite beautiful and mesmerizing. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a perfect film, but it's certainly one of the best tellings of the Dracula tale.
Klaus Kinski is amazingly creepy and gives a great performance, of course, but so does the rest of the cast. It's a lovely horror film overall, and a worthy successor to the F.W. Murnau original film.
