Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Who A — 02 Jan 2018
A slow film, based on a classic story. It's delecatly presented with many pauses where the fantastic score combined with people-free shots brings the story to the next scene.
It's in short about a fella, Jonathan, acted out by Ganz, that needs to pay a visit to some fella from Transylvania named Count Dracula, acted out by Klaus Kinski. They meet up, something happen, as Dracula is on a mission to find Jonathan's girl, Lucy, acted by Isabelle Adjani.
The slow pace is fitting, we all know the story, no need to rush through it. It's not that we are getting all the things we already know painted all over the screen, we see more of the way it affects people, how they act and develop. The mentioned score is fantastic, so is the atmosphere. Never a bloody or scary film, with few surprizes. Brilliant, as this part easily could fail. A lot of the reasons for it's success is the actors. They are great. The film is never flat and I think it's presented this famous masterpiece of a story very well. The lack of drama is one of few things to point out as negative.
8 out of 10 rats.
