Review of Noriko's Dinner Table (2005) by Candy C — 07 Nov 2007
OH MY GOD! I cannot imagine a better sequel to "Suicide Club", one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie is brilliant! I have to hand to it Sion Sono, he did a phenomenal job with this movie! The cast was absolutely perfect in every way.
All three of the main actresses: Fukiishi Kazue, Tsugumi, and Yoshitaka Yuriko were just fantastic!. Really, that final scene: unforgettable. The way the story is told: a series of first person narratives from each of the main characters, was a stroke of pure genius! In my opinion, this movie tops it's predecessor in just about every way possible.
It did a fantastic job of expanding upon the first, clearing up some of the questions that arose, and brought up even more; but whereas "Suicide Club" examined the effects of the cult upon society as a whole, "Noriko's Dinner Table" takes a much more introspective, and focused view: its effects upon a single family.
It's length might be little off putting to some, but the film never seems to drag. If you enjoyed "Suicide Club", this is an absolute must watch!
