Review of Nicholas and Alexandra (1971) by Christine R — 04 Feb 2011
Any film extolling these two miscreants and the disasters they created without a serious interrogation of the results of their ineptitude, racism, and rank stupidity does not brook a serious response. Presented as love stories between idiotic royal couples often are (see Juarez 1939), this film tries to make Nicholas & Alexandra into a tragic couple, a doomed romance, instead of instigators of the mass deaths of the 20th century.
Staged overly formally, this film bores rather than enlightens. Good riddance to them both.
