Review of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009) by Siri H — 21 Feb 2010
Oh dear. Where to begin? The shockingly bad dialogue? People just don't talk like that. The concept itself? Better films have come out of worse plots. The entire film reeks of incompetence, from acting to directing; the best scene in the film - where Megashark jumps out of the water and takes a 747 out of the air (incidentally the only reason why this film gets a full star) - is used only 20 minutes or so into the film, and from there on in it just gets dull.
But it is possible that the CGI could be this film's only saving grace: the little CGI the producers could eke out of the limited budget is used over and over and over, to the extent where it's almost enjoyable to try and count how many times the shot of the shark swimming from left to right/ right to left (shot flipped) is used.
I see the potential of a drinking game here; a drink for every time the different CGI shots are repeated. And perhaps blind drunk is how this film is best enjoyed?
