Review of Meet John Doe (1941) by Sean F — 31 Dec 2003
A sad, provoking movie that makes an attempt to be a romance and drama but ends up looking like a puddle of wet tissues. Gary Cooper stars in this early 40's movie about a poor vagabond who hates life and is offered something he can't refuse, an offer that includes a suicide and a world-changing plea.
Barbara Stanwyck stars as Gary's talkative and hopeful you woman who hopes to change the world. They aspire to bring peace to the people, asking them to join the force in their fight for good under the false name of John Doe and the pretense that he is a do-gooder like Christ.
Emotional, dramatic, lingering at the brink of foolishness. Recommended to those in need of pointless drama..
