Review of M (1931) by Brian S — 01 Jan 2009
Such a masterfully-crafted film. Lang captures every possible moment of tension-building: Lorre's wide-eyed apprehension, the nervous whistling of Hall of the Mountain King, the periods of stark silence.
... the tone and subject matter is also beautifully dark and socially biting. the chalk 'M' also parallels splendidly with Hawthorne's scarlet 'A'. early psychothriller, crime drama, and poignant social commentary--this film is simply awesome.
