Review of Lolita (1962) by Michael Y — 25 Jun 2011
Yet another controversial endeavor of Stanley Kubrick's that I am undecided upon. On one hand, James Mason performed fabulously and the story was adapted by Vladimir Nabokov (the novelist also) beautifully. But on the other hand, the ending wasn't crafted well and the supporting actors (besides Peter Sellers) were over the top and served little purpose.
I'm divided. Sellers, Mason and the plot were fascinating, but everything else, including some of the direction was worthless. (I will admit Kubrick had his moments, but often it was hard to discern which shots were of worth to the story and which were frivolous).
Overall see it, but if you miss it you won't be missing a huge hit.
