Review of Lolita (1962) by Jose Luis M — 16 Jan 2015
An intriguing work from Kubrick's catalogue. Although I hear that it greatly departures from the original text by Nabokov, it still held its own. The casting was on point with Sue Lyon helming the titular role of Lolita.
Sellers just shines in every scene he's in. Definitely enjoyable but I wouldnt say it is in Kubrick's bests. Considering the topic at hand, Kubrick did best with what he could do. It was darkly humourous and cynical.
Launching the bright career of Lyon although it did not pan out as it could have with her fearing the all the fame she attained. How unfortunate.
