Strange film. Roberto Benigni's brand of comedy wasn't working at all for me in the first half of the movie, way too slapstick. It works better in the more serious 2nd half when it's toned down.

It's a really hard movie to pin down - is it artistic or trashy in the way it deals with the subject matter? I'm leaning more towards the former, but I can see this rubbing a good number of people the wrong way, and I can probably see where they are coming from, too.
