Seeing enough Sandler films to really get the general jist of nearly all of them, it's always following the same repetitive annoying pattern that is difficult to not notice in his films - Sandler yells, gets the girl, his real life friends are in there somewhere, cameos, fart and fat jokes. The Wedding Singer, although the first of the string of Sandler's mediocre Barrymore romcoms, doesn't bring much to the table with repetitive jokes and themes, bland characters (Sandler tends to be the same general character in every movie), and an unfunny atmosphere to it.

Robbie Hart is a down on his luck wedding singer who falls into a deep depression after a no show wedding from his bride. He falls in love with a ballroom waitress named Julia, who Sandler wants to express his love for her despite her soon to be marriage to the arrogant Glen, a playboy matchmaker.

The Wedding Singer first of all wants to constantly remind you it's the 80s just in case you forgot - its constant stream of 80s references is the main source of tired forced jokes. The plot has been used many times before about an underdog love story and this is the forced "new age" perspective on it. Most of the film has nothing to bring to the table - it probably did in 1998 but once you've seen most of Sandler's mediocre filmwork you've seen it all. There's aspects of all of his films in it and that's not a good thing. The Wedding Singer is typical Sandler, you love it or hate it, but either way it has little to it.
