Review of L'Avventura (1960) by Sarah F — 11 Sep 2006
One of the best films I have seen!
Michelangelo Antonioni is one of my best directors. His style is unique and not for everybody. Some don't like lack of action in his films.
My first impression of "L'avventura" was like "boring, but very very beautiful". It IS beatiful really! Genius Italian (one of the great "Italian trinity": Fellini - Visconti - Antonioni) can film everything - and it will be beautiful! It will be art!
In a few months I caught myself that I was thinking only about this movie! I became special for me! I missed that atmosphere of "L'avventura" - a very special one! You need no action to create such an atmosphere.
Maybe.... lack of action is even an obligatory condition to make such!
And Monica Vitti, of course, - a muse of Antonioni!
