Review of Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989) by Vince F — 17 Apr 2008
Very bleak, expectedly so from Hubert Selby Jr., with a lot of parallels to 'Requiem for a Dream' even. The quality ranges sometimes, with nice dark atmosphere and then some awkward staging, some memorable performances (Jennifer Jason Leigh mainly) and some excruciating ones (here's looking at you Georgette).
.. It left me sort of deadened, which probably isn't far from its intent, but without any emotional wallop.
