Review of All This, and Heaven Too (1940) by Daniel K — 17 May 2010
2: Films don't get much more melodramatic than this. It's a bit ridiculous; definitely not the best Bette Davis vehicle out there. I'm sure there are many viewers out there that enjoy it, but I found the picture to be a bit much.
There are few that make them like this any more. The few examples I can think of, and that have only passing knowledge of, include the more ridiculous South Korean television shows and a few Mexican soap operas.
I imagine there are others out there, but not in what I consider the mainstream, and for good reason I'd say. The strings are so overpowering, the voice calculated to pull at your heartstrings, and those big eyes are sadder than ever.
Nice title, but again very over the top.
