Review of La Strada (1954) by Matt C — 11 Apr 2010
My first Fellini film, and, needless to say, I was astonished. La Strada is the depressing tale of a girl who isn't very privileged at all in all aspects of life, and is forced to become the assistant of a cruel, condescending, rather untalented brute (played brilliantly by Anthony Quinn) in the circus.
The Fool comes along though and actually treats her like a human being but is killed by Quinn's character and the girl finally snaps. The film looks beautiful, the actors all do a phenomenal job, and by the end of this poignant picture, there's really nothing I can complain about.
This one has left me very excited to view the rest of Fellini's decorated filmography.
