Review of La Collectionneuse (1967) by Josh K — 10 Jul 2008
I get the sense that the film wants the viewer to identify with the protagonist, a young man vacationing somewhere on the Mediterranean coast in France who is tempted by a young woman staying at his friend's house.
He actually comes off as a witless creep, much less interesting than he thinks he is, who tries to manipulate and humiliate the woman. But, *spoiler* his great triumph in the end is resisting his temptation and booking a flight to see his girlfriend.
The film is awfully pretty to look at but the film doesn't seem to know its "hero" truly is an ugly human being.
