Review of La Collectionneuse (1967) by Natalie M — 14 Sep 2012
The cinematography by Nestor Almendros was good, as I expected, with the exception of what seemed to me like clumsy zooms. I also think the edition I picked up perhaps was not a good one to watch and, in fact, I learned after watching the movie that it's on Criterion.
So I'm sure it looks much more luscious and golden than the rough version I saw. However, I have no interest in picking up the Criterion edition because I barely had any interest as I watched the film.
I enjoyed the sets and some of the wonderful dialogue Rohmer is known for, but I couldn't care less about the characters and I honestly couldn't care less about the story either.
