Review of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) by Tony P — 10 Oct 2009
This is quality vintage. Ray Harryhausen's visual effects are dated and uconvincing, but still intimidating in the boldness of its presentation and the tediousness of its creation. It's the moments of extended stop-motion that are still enjoyable and exciting.
The rest is fodder, trite, with lots of ADR. There are strong performances mixed in with shabby ones, but they're unimportant. It's totally a visual film with some well executed mythical stories.
Worth checking out for its uniqueness.
