Review of I Walked with a Zombie (1943) by Zdravko P — 06 Oct 2012
She makes a beautiful zombie, doesn't she?
Betsy is a young nurse that has been hired to care for the wife of a plantation owner that is in a comatose state. Betsy falls in love with the plantation owner and feels bringing his wife back to life, even if it means using voodoo, may be the only way to make him happy; however, the voodoo may be more than she bargained for.
"Portions of the spinal cord were burnt out by the fever.".
Jacques Tourneur, director of City in the Sea, Comedy of Terrors, Fury River, Frontier Rangers, Curse of the Demon, Cat People (1942), and The Leopard Man, delivers I Walked with a Zombie. The storyline for this picture is entertaining and fun to watch unfold. The acting is also very good and the cast includes Frances Dee, Tom Conway, James Ellison, and James Bell.
"The woman was a wicked woman and she was dead in her own life.".
This was a fairly god movie with great characters and a solid script. I thought the voodoo scenes were a bit boring and stale but the majority of the movie is good and worth your time. I do recommend seeing this if you are a fan of old school horror pictures.
"Give peace and happiness to the living.".
Grade: B+/A-.
