Review of I Walked with a Zombie (1943) by Jeffrey P — 07 Oct 2011
Nurse Betsy (Frances Dee) travels to the West Indies to care for the comatose wife of sugar plantation owner Paul Holland (Tom Conway). But there seems to be more to the story as time passes, and it becomes increasingly fantastic.
Was Jessica the victim of a fever -- or a voodoo curse? Low-budget horror from producer Val Lewton won't be winning any sensitivity awards these days, but director Jacques Tourneur makes the most of his limited resources.
There's some genuinely creepy moments here, mainly due to skillful lighting and casting.
