Review of I, Daniel Blake (2016) by Peter F — 02 Jan 2017
The latest from British director Ken Loach is another diatribe against social injustices, as well as a stirring character study. I, Daniel Blake examines social issues with the British job market, all while being led by really naturalistic acting and storytelling.
While the script from Paul Laverty (Loach's frequent collaborator) doesn't offer too many surprises, it's never wincing, and feels of the moment than ever in light of the uncertain economic future the world is facing.
At 80-years old, Ken Loach still feels remarkably contemporary a filmmaker, albeit one with very visible experience.
